The last of the seven I AM sayings: Jesus is the Vine, we are the branches. Fruitfulness is not striving — it is abiding.
What the name means
A branch does not produce fruit by effort; it produces by staying attached. Abiding is the secret of fruit.
Apart from Me you can do nothing — not 'you can do a little' but nothing of eternal value.
The Father prunes fruit-bearing branches so they bear more — pruning is not punishment but promotion.
How to pray this name
- Pray: 'True Vine, I abide — I do not strive for fruit, I stay connected to You.'
- Pray it when you feel barren — check the connection, not the effort.
True Vine, I am a branch. I abide in You and trust You for the fruit. Prune me for more. In the Mighty Name of Jesus! Amen.
