El Shaddai

אֵל שַׁדַּי

God Almighty — the All-Sufficient One

Symbol: The mountain — unshakable sufficiency and nourishing strength

I am El Shaddai — God Almighty; walk before me faithfully and be blameless.

Genesis 17:1

God introduced Himself as El Shaddai to a ninety-nine-year-old man with no son. The name means: My power is not limited by your impossibility.

What the name means

Shaddai is linked by many scholars to the word for breast — God as the One who nourishes, satisfies and supplies without running dry.

It is the name of the promise-keeper who works after the deadline has passed: Abraham's body was as good as dead, and El Shaddai made him a father of nations.

El Shaddai answers the fear that God has enough power but not enough left for you.

How to pray this name

  • Pray this name over barren, delayed, and 'too late' places.
  • Speak it when your resources are exhausted: 'El Shaddai, You are more than enough.'

El Shaddai, God Almighty, You are more than enough for what I cannot carry. Do the impossible after my strength has ended. In the Mighty Name of Jesus! Amen.

Declaration

El Shaddai is my supply — I am not limited by what I have, but by nothing at all.
