Adonai is the name of surrender. To call Him Lord is to hand back the keys of your own life.
What the name means
In Scripture a master both commands and provides — servants of a great master lack nothing. Lordship is not tyranny; it is belonging.
Israel spoke 'Adonai' aloud wherever YHWH was written, so reverence and relationship were bound together in one breath.
You cannot call Him Adonai and keep a veto. The name itself is an act of yielding.
How to pray this name
- Open your prayer time by handing Him the day: 'Adonai, You are Lord of this hour.'
- Use it in decisions where you are tempted to insist on your own way.
Adonai, my Master and my Lord, I lay down my ownership of my life. Command me and I will follow. In the Mighty Name of Jesus! Amen.
