The True Witness
ὁ μάρτυς ὁ ἀληθινός
The True Witness — the Amen, the faithful witness who cannot lie
Symbol: The lamp searching the temple — truth that diagnoses and prescribes
“To the angel of the church in Laodicea write: These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God's creation.”
Revelation 3:14
To the lukewarm Laodicean church, Christ introduces Himself as the True Witness — the One whose diagnosis cannot be wrong and whose remedy cannot fail.
What the name means
A true witness tells you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear — He loves the Laodiceans enough to wound and heal.
He is the ruler of God's creation — His witness is backed by sovereign authority over all things.
The True Witness offers gold, white clothes and eye salve to the lukewarm — truth that meets every need.
How to pray this name
- Pray: 'True Witness, search me — I want Your diagnosis, not flattery.'
- Pray it for your church — the True Witness speaks to congregations, not only individuals.
True Witness, search my heart and tell me the truth. Give me gold, white clothes and eye salve. In the Mighty Name of Jesus! Amen.
Declaration
Christ is the True Witness — I trust His diagnosis and His remedy above my own feelings.
