The last words of Ezekiel. After exile, ruin and silence, God names the city by His own presence in it.
What the name means
This name is God's answer to abandonment. Wherever 'there' is for you — the hospital, the empty house, the far country — He is there.
Presence is the final promise of Scripture: 'God's dwelling place is now among the people' (Revelation 21:3).
The altar exists because of this name; we build where He already is.
How to pray this name
- Name the place you feel most alone and declare Him there.
- Pray it as a welcome at the start of worship.
Jehovah-Shammah, You are here. In the room I dread and the season I did not choose, You are there before me. In the Mighty Name of Jesus! Amen.
Declaration
The Lord is here — I am never in a place where His presence has not already arrived.
