Christos
χριστός
The Anointed One — the Messiah, set apart and empowered by the Spirit
Symbol: Oil poured over the head — the anointing that appoints kings
“Simon Peter answered, 'You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.'”
Matthew 16:16
Christ is not Jesus' surname — it is His office: the long-promised Anointed One, prophet, priest and king at once.
What the name means
Kings, priests and prophets were anointed with oil; Jesus was anointed with the Spirit beyond measure.
To call Him Christos is to confess He is God's chosen answer to every promise in Scripture.
Because the Anointed One lives in you, you share His anointing — His mission is your commission.
How to pray this name
- Confess Him specifically: 'Jesus, You are the Christ' — Peter's rock-confession.
- Pray for sensitivity to the anointing: what is He appointing you to do today?
Christos, Anointed One, I confess You as my Prophet, Priest and King. Anoint me for Your work. In the Mighty Name of Jesus! Amen.
Declaration
Jesus is the Christ, the Anointed One — and His anointing rests on my life.
