Chief Shepherd
ἀρχιποίμην
The Chief Shepherd — the one over all shepherds and all sheep
Symbol: The chief shepherd's crook — carried by the one who owns every flock
“And when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that will never fade away.”
1 Peter 5:4
Peter writes to under-shepherds and reminds them there is a Chief — the One who will judge, reward and reveal when He appears.
What the name means
Every pastor, parent and leader is an under-shepherd; Christ alone is the Chief — the flock is ultimately His.
The Chief Shepherd's crown is glory that never fades — human recognition rusts; His reward is eternal.
His appearing is the hope of every faithful servant: the Chief will come and settle accounts in grace.
How to pray this name
- Pray for your leaders: 'Chief Shepherd, guard those who tend Your flock.'
- Pray for His appearing: 'Come, Chief Shepherd — bring the unfading crown.'
Chief Shepherd, I belong to Your flock. Guard my leaders and bring me to Your appearing with joy. In the Mighty Name of Jesus! Amen.
Declaration
My Chief Shepherd is coming — He will crown what was faithful and gather what was lost.
