Ho Artos tes Zoes
ὁ ἄρτος τῆς ζωῆς
The Bread of Life — the Bread that satisfies forever
Symbol: The broken loaf passed hand to hand — daily sustenance from heaven
“Then Jesus declared, 'I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry.'”
John 6:35
The first of the seven great I AM sayings: the crowd came for loaves; Jesus offered Himself.
What the name means
Israel ate manna and died; those who feed on Christ live forever — He is better bread than Moses ever broke.
Bread is daily and humble: He meets you at tables, not only temples.
Never go hungry is a promise for the coming-to, not the accomplished — come daily; He never runs out.
How to pray this name
- Come to Him for nourishment before requests: 'Bread of Life, feed me today.'
- Pair this name with communion — the table preaches the Bread.
Bread of Life, feed my hungry soul — I come to You and will not be sent away. In the Mighty Name of Jesus! Amen.
