At the cross, a Roman soldier — not a disciple — confessed what the world needed to hear: surely He was the Son of God. The cross revealed what His baptism had declared.
What the name means
At His baptism, the Father said: 'This is my beloved Son' — the cross proved it.
The centurion saw how He died and confessed what Israel's leaders missed — the cross is the revelation of the Son.
To call Him Son of God is to confess His deity: not a son among sons, but God the Son, one with the Father.
How to pray this name
- Pray the centurion's confession: 'Surely You are the Son of God.'
- Pray it for revelation — the cross is where sonship is seen most clearly.
Son of God, I confess You as the centurion did — the cross has revealed You. I believe You are God the Son. In the Mighty Name of Jesus! Amen.
