Head of the Body, the Church

Head of the Body — the One who directs, nourishes and holds together His church
Symbol: The head joined to the body — life flows from Christ to every member
“And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.”
Colossians 1:18
Paul's image is organic: the church is a body, Christ is its Head. Life, direction and growth all flow from the Head to the members.
What the name means
A body without a head cannot live; a head without a body is incomplete. Christ and His church belong together.
He is the beginning and firstborn from the dead — His resurrection is the birth of the body.
In everything He has supremacy — the Head does not compete with the body; He enables it.
How to pray this name
- Pray: 'Head of the Body, direct me — I am a member and I belong to You.'
- Pray for your local church: 'Head, connect us to Yourself and to each other.'
Head of the Body, the Church, direct and nourish me as Your member. I will not detach from You. In the Mighty Name of Jesus! Amen.
