Consuming Fire
אֵשׁ אֹכְלָה
The Consuming Fire — holy love that burns away all that is not of Him

God is not safe in the way we want Him to be — He is a fire. He consumes what is false and refines what is true.
What the name means
Fire in Scripture reveals, purifies and judges — God's holiness burns away what cannot stand in His presence.
Hebrews 12:28-29 says we worship with reverence and awe, 'for our God is a consuming fire.'
The Consuming Fire is not against you — He burns away the dross so that what remains is gold.
How to pray this name
- Pray: 'Consuming Fire, burn away what is false in me and refine what is true.'
- Pray it with reverence, not fear — the fire that refines is the fire that loves.
Consuming Fire, burn through my pretences. Refine me until only what is true remains. In the Mighty Name of Jesus! Amen.
