Abba

אַבָּא

Father — the intimate, trusting cry of a child

Symbol: Open hands lifted to a Father who always answers

The Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, 'Abba, Father.'

Romans 8:15

The word Jesus used in Gethsemane and the word the Spirit puts in your mouth. It is the family name of God.

What the name means

Abba is household language — warm, near, unguarded. It is not casual; it is intimate.

That the Spirit teaches us this cry means intimacy is not an achievement of the mature, but a gift to the adopted.

Fear and sonship cannot share the same room: 'You did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear.'

How to pray this name

  • Start prayer as a child, not a petitioner.
  • Pray it over wounds left by earthly fathers.

Abba, Father, I come as Your child, not Your employee. Heal the orphan places in me and let me rest in Your love. In the Mighty Name of Jesus! Amen.

Declaration

I am a child of God — I call Him Abba and He calls me His own.
