Dunamis
“Power; miraculous might”
“You will receive dunamis — power — when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses.”
Acts 1:8
Dunamis is the word behind 'you shall receive power' — the same might that raised Christ now resides in ordinary people who pray. It is where our word 'dynamite' comes from.
What it means
Dunamis is not human strength improved; it is divine energy deposited — the power of the age to come breaking in.
It raised Christ from the dead, and Scripture says that same immeasurably great power works toward us who believe.
The altar is where dunamis is received: not by striving, but by waiting, as the disciples waited in the upper room.
Pray the word
Holy Spirit, fill me afresh with Your dunamis — power for purity, power for witness, power for the works of God.
Let the power that raised Christ Jesus be alive and visible in my ordinary day.
I do not go out today by might nor by power, but by Your Spirit.
I receive dunamis — the resurrection power of the Holy Spirit rests upon me and works through me today.
