Night Prayer: Scriptures for Rest, Peace and the Night Watch
“In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.”
Psalm 4:8
The night has its own kind of trouble. Some nights ask only for sleep; others ask you to stay awake and pray. These scriptures serve both — verses to quiet a mind that will not switch off, verses for the fear that shows up after midnight, and verses for the watch, when God wakes you not to torment you but to meet you.

A prayer to pray
Lord, the day is finished and I am handing it back to You — the good of it and the failures of it. Forgive me for what I did wrong and for what I left undone. I will not carry it into tomorrow. Quiet everything in me that is still running. Where fear waits in the dark, let Your presence fill the room instead. Watch over this house, this bed, this family; You neither slumber nor sleep, so I can. And if You wake me in the night, let it not be for torment but for the watch — put Your song in my mouth at midnight and let me pray for those who cannot pray for themselves. Give me sweet sleep and wake me with mercy. In the Mighty Name of Jesus! Amen.

How to pray these scriptures
Close the day out loud
Before sleep, name one thing you are grateful for and one thing you are releasing. Do not let the sun go down on either gratitude unspoken or anger unresolved.
Keep a verse on the nightstand
Choose one verse from the fear section and leave it where you will see it if you wake at 3 a.m. The night is easier to face with a word already in your hand.
If you wake, take the watch
Instead of fighting for sleep, pray for ten minutes — for your household, your city, and one person by name. Many have found that the watch ends with sleep anyway.
