Robe of Righteousness
Listen to this devotional
Opening · Section 1 of 11
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”
John 10:10Read full chapter →
Endurance is not gritted teeth; it is a steady gaze. Runners who fix their eyes on Jesus do not grow weary, because the strength is not theirs to maintain — it is His to supply.
The middle of the race is where many fall away. The excitement of the start has faded and the finish line is still out of sight. This is the mile that faith is forged. Keep running.
There is a difference between reading a verse and letting a verse read you. The first informs; the second interrogates. Sit with this passage long enough for it to ask you something. What does it expose? What does it comfort? What does it demand? The word of God is living and active, and living things always move the ground they are planted in.
Above all, keep the altar burning. The command to the priests was that the fire must never go out — and it was kept alive by daily, unremarkable attention. Add your wood today. Tend the flame. What is tended daily becomes a fire that others can warm themselves by.
The Prayer
Pray it slowly, out loud, movement by movement
1. Adoration
Lord, You are the God who does not run out. Kingdoms have exhausted their treasuries and men have exhausted their strength, but You have never once been depleted. Your mercies are new this morning as though they had never been spent. I worship You as the inexhaustible One.
2. Confession
Forgive me for living as if everything depended on my capacity. I have carried what You never asked me to carry and called it faithfulness. I have measured my worth by my output. Today I lay down the exhausting religion of self-sufficiency and I come back to grace.
3. Petition
Fill the gaps I cannot close. Speak the words I cannot find. Open the doors I cannot reach and shut the ones I keep trying to force. Where I am weak, be strong in me; where I am afraid, be my confidence; where I am empty, be my supply.
4. Consecration
I choose to lean my full weight on You today. I will not strive for what You have promised to provide, and I will not carry what You have promised to bear. My life is Yours to spend as You see fit. In the Mighty Name of Jesus! Amen.
