Songs in the Night
Listen to this devotional
Opening · Section 1 of 11
“And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
John 8:32Read full chapter →
The finish line is not a place you arrive at by accident. It is reached by those who refuse to let one bad day become a bad direction. Endurance is the choice to begin again, faithfully, every morning.
Lift your drooping hands and strengthen your weak knees. The path of endurance is also the path of healing. Keep walking; the God who sustains you is making a way where there seems to be none.
Notice how often God attaches His promises to His name rather than to your performance. 'I am the Lord who heals you.' 'I am your shield and your very great reward.' 'I am with you always.' Your security is not in the strength of your grip on Him but in the strength of His grip on you.
Refuse to let this be information. Choose one specific action that this passage demands of you and do it before the day ends — a call, a gift, an apology, a boundary, a beginning. Obedience delayed is obedience diluted; the fire you feel now is meant to be spent on something real.
The Prayer
Pray it slowly, out loud, movement by movement
1. Adoration
Lord, You are the fountain of living water. Every other well runs dry eventually — achievement, approval, entertainment, even the best of human love. You alone satisfy the thirst You created in me.
2. Confession
I have dug broken cisterns. I have gone to substitutes for the comfort only You can give, and then wondered why my soul felt thin. Forgive me, and draw me back to the source.
3. Petition
Water the dry ground of my soul. Let Your word sink deep and root strong, past the shallow topsoil of emotion into the bedrock of conviction. May the fruit of this day remain long after the day is over.
4. Consecration
I plant myself by Your river again. Grow whatever You want to grow in me, and prune whatever will not bear fruit. In the Mighty Name of Jesus! Amen.
